ASPIRA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging and promoting education and leadership development among Hispanic youth in the United States. ASPIRA was founded by a group of community leaders who were concerned with the high dropout rate of Hispanic students, and the social and economic conditions in their communities. With local offices in cities all over the U.S., ASPIRA also sponsors several national community programs designed to improve the quality of living and educational opportunities for the Hispanic community.

Project 1000 is a national program created to assist underrepresented students applying to graduate school. By centralizing the graduate school application process, the project greatly reduces the expenses normally involved in applying to graduate school. Students may apply, free of charge, to seven of the more than 80 participating institutions with just one application. The project also provides bilingual academic advisors and GRE workshops.

El Centro Chicano works to promote student retention and development. It serves as a network for Chicano/Latino students to develop their leadership aptitude. To continue in the program, students must stay in school and graduate.

FUTURE LEADERS OF AMERICA (FLA) (est. 1985)

The FLA mission is to teach leadership skills and inculcate in Latino youth a deeper understanding and appreciation of responsible leadership in a democratic society. It recruits 14- and 15-year-old Latino students from six geographical areas in California and two in Mexico for entry-level programs. One- and two-day academic seminars are offered at major California and Mexican universities.
